In July 2013, under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), CE Marking became mandatory for all construction products where a harmonised European Standard exists. Where compliance with the conditions of relevant European Standards is achieved, the manufacturer in the European Economic Area (EEA) shall prepare and retain a declaration of conformity, which entitles the manufacturer to affix the CE marking.

Through the UK Climate Change Act 2008, the UK government is committed to a 34% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2020 and 80% by 2050. Since construction contributes about 7%, the construction industry is a major focus for change. Low energy construction products are important for low carbon buildings.
This project is aimed to undertake comprehensive review for a full understanding of the procedures for the attestation of conformity of steel lintels and relevant standards for the CE Marking; to assess Catnic’s historic lintel test results to develop the design tables for structural engineers and as well as acquire detailed knowledge of the Catnic lintel range, their application and performance requirements; and to develop scientific and analytical models for new low carbon steel lintel product development.
This project fits in the mainstream delivery of low and zero carbon homes and advanced manufacturing.
