It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of KESS 2 Alumnus, Dr Adrian Mironas, who passed away on the 24th of January 2022. We would like to remember Adrian by recognising his achievements and contributions through KESS 2 and the wider professional academic society.
Adrian was passionate about his research and very much an active peer in what he liked to call the “KESS 2 family” since the beginning of the project. He spoke at many KESS 2 events, winning awards for his presentations; attended several Transnational KESS 2 Grad Schools in Portugal, Belgium, Wales and Sweden and, most recently, participated in a case study reflecting on his time during his KESS 2 funded project.
He began his academic journey with a BSc in Biochemistry and pursued an MPhil in Molecular Biology funded through the first KESS programme. Adrian then went on to study the diagnosis and monitoring of respiratory diseases for his PhD through KESS 2 and gained his doctoral qualification at Aberystwyth University’s IBERS in a collaborative project with Hywel Dda University Health Board and ProTEM Service Ltd.
He successfully defended his viva and gained his doctorate in 2020, then continued his professional career working with Health Technology Wales, joining their team as a Health Services Researcher.
“Adrian was a colourful, vibrant and passionate researcher and member of our KESS 2 family. He was a dear friend and a trusted colleague who will always be in our hearts. This is such a tragic loss for us all. We were blessed to share the time we all had with him and to have created many happy memories together. Our thoughts are with Adrian’s family at this difficult time.” – Penny Dowdney, KESS 2 Wales Manager.
Adrian has been laid to rest by his family in Romania and will be greatly missed by us all.
